TV and Sugar Cereal: An Important Part of a Complete Childhood

Yesterday, I was playing downstairs with my kids when I came across a little tiger finger puppet I'd made for them ages ago. I put it on my finger, wiggled it around and started saying "Frosted Flakes Good? They're Grrrrrreat!"

I expected Firstborn to laugh, but he just looked at me quizzically and asked "Why are you saying that?" And I realized that not having them planted in front of the TV all day has it's downside! Thanks to our refusal to pay for cable TV, and Rosemary's Baby's penchant for breaking the rabbit ears (which aren't really available in stores anymore anyway), my kids are really lacking in pop-culture!

If you too have this disasterous social problem, the good news is that I've taken this opportunity to learn how to embed a video in my posts! Show this cheesy old commercial to your kids. They'll thank you for it later.

Hmm!!! I don't have a TV either. Every time we go to my parents' place my kids become glued to it. Once my 3 year old daughter asked if she can be a Barbie doll when she grows up. She had never seen a Barbie previously.
I have a friend who nevers watches tv, never reads newspapers, never reads anything but attachment parents books and doesnt have a clue about anything in the real world. She cant follow convos when we are all out as a group etc. Thank goodness for youtube!
Yesterday I learned how to download a youtube video and put it on my blog...I feel like I have been hauled into the 21st century!

LOLOL, toooo funny!

I think "depriving" your kids of television is quite possibly the greatest gift you'll ever give 'em! Heck, they might even decide to read a book ... or create something with their own two hands!

'Cept the craftin' thing could get messy ... but otherwise a great thing!

I remember that commercial and ones like it always created this deep longing because my parents didn't "deprive" me of television (well at least the educational stuff) but did "deprive" me of sugary cereal. I love sleepovers because I could eat all the sugary cereal I wanted!
